Shaqir O'Neal's mom Shaunie shares cryptic post about letting "people be wrong" amid controversy with Laura Govan
Shaqir O'Neal's mother, Shaunie Henderson, has a long and complicated history with Laura Govan, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas' ex-wife. The two shared their stories as the wives of NBA players together on the show, "Basketball Wives."
However, things went downhill during Shaunie's divorce from her former husband, Shaquille O'Neal. The former LA Lakers big man was accused of infidelity, and Govan was caught in rumors of sleeping with him.
While it looked like everyone involved seemed to have moved on, the topic was brought up once again this year when Laura Govan addressed the cheating allegations during her chat with Carlos King and his "Reality with The King" podcast.
Last month, Govan took direct shots at Shaunie Henderson as she referenced Al Pacino's "Scarface" and claimed she was speaking the truth, but Henderson couldn't handle it.
Shaqir O'Neal's mother seemingly responded to this with an Instagram post on Friday, which read:
"Letting people be wrong about you or a situation while keeping your peace and focus is the most misunderstood power move you will ever make."
"Let them be wrong 💯," she wrote in the caption.
During her appearance on Carlos King's podcast, Laura Govan said Shaunie Henderson reached out to her via Instagram DMs to clear up the cheating rumors.
"Shaunie actually DMs me and said that she wanted to clear up a rumor that she was the reason I wasn't on Basketball Wives," Govan said. "She DM'd me this year, in 2024 ... I just remember being like, 'Yeah, cool. That's what's up.' Cause I see her, our daughters play basketball a lot together."
While Shaqir O'Neal is playing for the Florida A&M Rattlers, his sister, Me'Arah O'Neal, plays for the Florida Gators. Govan's daughter, Izela Arenas, is a freshman at Louisville.
Shaqir O'Neal finds his home in Florida and is making immense progress
After two years with the Texas Southern Tigers, Shaqir O'Neal is playing his redshirt junior season at Florida A&M. The forward played an average of 7.0 and 9.7 minutes with the Tigers but has also been on the court for 19.8 minutes with the Rattlers. He is averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists, a huge jump from his previous years.
In an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat earlier this month, O'Neal said:
“I want to build a name for myself in Tallahassee. I love this place. I’m not going to let anybody down. I want to make FAMU proud.”
With the holiday break ending, O'Neal and the Rattlers will return to action on Sunday against Tarleton State.
