Hailey Van Lith trusts Mark Campbell and TCU's system
Hailey Van Lith’s year with LSU was similar to her freshman year with the Louisville Cardinals. She raised eyebrows when she transferred to TCU, a team coming off a 7-29 conference record in the last two years and with a relatively new head coach.
Nevertheless, Van Lith trusts Mark Campbell and believes that TCU’s system will help her maximize her potential before she mounts a big-league journey.
"He recruited me to Oregon out of high school when he was the assistant there," Van Lith said courtside on the Big 12 Media Day. "He just, he's a very genuine, authentic person and I trust his opinion."
"He said that he thought that they could help me reach my full potential for this last year and I 100% believe him and I think the system that TCU has is perfect for me. It's perfect for me not only to thrive but also to grow and become better, so that's all I can ask for."
TCU’s playbook works with spacing, with many four-out offense actions. It is a system that Hailey Van Lith prefers, as she can easily find ways to keep getting downhill and spark mismatches.
She will also have more freedom with the ball this year, which could result in increased offensive speed by TCU and more-than-usual pick-and-roll actions.
When HVL entered the transfer portal, she was approached by the Gamecocks, UConn Huskies, Oregon, Ohio State and other top programs around the circuit.
