“She had been my point guard”: Iowa star Kylie Feuerbach mentions Caitlin Clark as major reason for transferring to Iowa

Kylie Feuerbach has been a solid rotation option for the Iowa women's basketball team in recent years. Since transferring to the Hawkeyes from Iowa State in 2021, Feuerbach has seen Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall lock down the Hawkeyes' backcourt and achieve incredible success.

Among that trio, Clark seemingly played the biggest role in enticing Feuerbach to move across the state to join the Hawkeyes after just a year with the Cyclones.

In the latest episode of Fresh Tawk with host and teammate Jada Gyamfi, Feuerbach revealed how Clark's generational performances in the Hawkeyes yellow played a huge role in making her switch allegiances.

"I had played with Caitlin, she had been my point guard obviously for attack in the past, and I knew, kind of just like the work ethic and the coaches. I just knew the culture, obviously, was insanely good."

Feuerbach, who was Clark's roommate during her time with the Hawkeyes, also admitted that the competition in the Big Ten conference and being closer to home influenced her decision to transfer to Iowa.

"There was a lot of things. Being a little bit closer to home, it’s a huge thing. I think, the Big Ten conference, overall, like the way they play basketball, is very appealing to play."

Kylie Feuerbach could see more game time in 2024-25

Kylie Feuerbach courageously chose to leave her regular starting position with the Cyclones to become a rotation player for the Hawkeyes.

With Clark becoming the top overall pick in this year's WNBA draft and Martin being a second round pick by the Las Vegas Aces, Feuerbach is likely to play a bigger role in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

After missing out the 2022-23 season due to injury, Feuerbach emerged as an effective player off the bench for the Hawkeyes in their run to the NCAA Tournament final last season. With 14.1 minutes of game time across 38 games, she averaged 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds while shooting .316 from the field, .296 from three-point range and .769 from the free-throw line.

While new coach Jan Jensen found an able replacement for Clark in Villanova Wildcats star Lucy Olsen, Feuerbach has showed that she has the tools to feature in the Hawkeyes' backcourt as a starter in 2024-25. Whether she can make a solid mark with the potential opportunity, only time will tell.
