“She’s very nice”: Lucy Olsen discloses how Caitlin Clark extended a helping hand to go through the Iowa experience

Iowa transferee Lucy Olsen revealed that Hawkeye alumna and WNBA #1 draft pick Caitlin Clark has been helpful as she navigates her way through her new school.

With new teammates and Jan Jensen taking the reins as the new head coach of the Hawkeyes, Olsen has been delighted with the support from the Iowa community, including their recent alumna.

"I've talked to Caitlin (Clark) a little bit. She's very nice. She's like 'let me know if you need anything. I'm always here. I went through a lot and I got you."

After spending the first three years in Villanova, the 5-foot-10 point guard from Pennsylvania looks to bring her talents to the Black and Gold.

Olsen hoped that the Hawkeyes would improve her basketball resume, which includes the 2024 Big East Most Improved Player, All-Big East team honors in 2023 and 2024, and 2021 Miss Pennsylvania Basketball.

A much improved Lucy Olsen is expected with the new team in Iowa

In her junior campaign with the Villanova Wildcats, Olsen was ranked third in the nation, only behind Caitlin Clark and USC's JuJu Watkins.

Olsen posted 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.9 steals and 43.8 field goal percentage in 36.2 minutes per game. Villanova failed to qualify in the 2024 NCAA tournament but finished runner-up in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament.

Now on her new team, Olsen did not seem like she lost a step. In the 110-55 win in the exhibition game against Missouri Western, Olsen was the team-high +57, notching 14 points, six rebounds and six assists, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Moreover, Olsen continued to impress in her first regular season win with the Hawkeyes, etching 17 points, four rebounds and seven assists in their 91-73 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies.

Olsen and the Hawkeyes will have a busy November, as they are slated to face Virginia Tech (Sunday), Toledo (November 13), Drake (November 17), Kansas (November 20), Washington State (November 24), Rhode Island (November 28) and BYU (November 29).
