"Significantly worse than anything Bronny-related": Insider expresses dissent as LeBron James' son Bryce James ranked as a top 100 recruit

As Bronny James settles into his LA Lakers role, George Michalowski, co-founder of the Portal Report, shifted the focus to LeBron James' younger son Bryce James. Michalowski shared an On3 report that listed Bryce as a four-star top 100 prospect in the 2025 class.

This prompted a stern response from Kevin Sweeney, NBA draft writer and NCAAB insider.

"Bryce James being a top-100 recruit is significantly worse than anything Bronny-related over the last two years," Sweeney said.

Sweeney compared the two brothers' performances and suggested that Bronny was the better player in high school:

"I've watched Bryce three different times in person. He is very far away from what Bronny was as a HS/AAU player. Worse defender, worse passer, averaged under 7 ppg on under 40% shooting on the EYBL circuit. Bronny averaged 12/5/4 and played a good floor game," Sweeney said in the comments section.

Bronny was highly rated but went through a dismal season with USC after suffering a heart attack in July 2023. Nevertheless, he was picked by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 draft.

Bryce James' EYBL stats

Bryce James played 14 games for Team SFG while traveling to multiple cities. While his team mounted a 7-7 record in two months, it was enough for him to make it to Peach Jam's main event.

James averaged 6.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in under 22 minutes of action. He touched the double-digit scoring mark four times with a 12-point outing against Drive Nation being his best.

In last month's Peach Jam, James averaged 5.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and zero assists while playing 22.2 minutes. His best stint came against the top prospects in the 2025 class, Cameron Boozer and Cayden Boozer's Nightrydas Elite.

Bryce James posted 12 points and two rebounds while shooting 50% from the field, while Cayden dropped eight points, six assists and four rebounds and Cameron scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on 66.7% shooting.
