"So proud of you": Gabbie Marshall has warm message for Caitlin Clark after ex-Iowa star wraps up first year on high note
Gabbie Marshall shared her love for former Iowa teammate Caitlin Clark after Clark capped off an incredible season in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever, who had picked her first overall in the draft.
Clark, who won the WNBA Rookie of the Year and led the Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016, was filled with gratitude as she reflected on her season. The Fever bowed out of the playoffs in the first round against the Connecticut Sun.
"Year one ✅ — thank you to the many people who have supported me as I’ve been able to live my childhood dream. I’m filled with gratitude as I reflect on this past year of my life. See you all in year two 🖤💫," Clark wrote in her Instagram post.
Several college basketball stars reacted to the post, including her close friend Gabbie Marshall.
"Love you and so proud of you," Marshall wrote.
Marshall enrolled at the University of Iowa one year before Caitlin Clark in 2019. After her fifth and final year last season, she opted against pursuing a professional basketball career.

Earlier in the season, when Caitlin Clark played in the Fever's home opener at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, she was surprised to learn the presence of Gabbie Marshall, who was seated courtside with her boyfriend Spencer Touro. The couple were in red Fever jerseys, with Marshall repping Clark's No. 22.
Clark talked about Gabbie Marshall's presence courtside and recalled the four years spent with her at Iowa.
"It's just special, obviously, having her here. It's somebody that I started all four years at Iowa with and has been one of my best friends throughout over the course of the last four years," Clark said of Marshall.
"Just special. I told her I loved her and she said the same, and she had so much fun coming and supporting tonight. I'm sure she'll be at a few games this season for us. It's weird being on the court without her, but it was fun having her there and seeing her smile and enjoying that moment with her."
Now that Clark is in her offseason, she will likely spend more time with her former Iowa teammates.
