“Sorry Chloe [Kitts]”: Collin Murray-Boyles leaves out GF and MiLaysia Fulwiley for 6’3 forward to be part of South Carolina MBB team
Collin Murray-Boyles was put in a tough spot by Wach Fox 57 reporter Amanda Poole earlier Tuesday. During an interaction with players from the South Carolina men's basketball team, Poole asked them to name one player who they would pick from the school's women's basketball team to be on the men's team, which drew some interesting responses.
Murray-Boyles, who is in a relationship with Gamecocks power forward Chloe Kitts, didn't pick his girlfriend. While trying to solve the question posed by Poole, the sophomore-to-be floated a few names from the reigning national champions, including 6-foot-3 forward Sania Feagin, after which he apologized to Kitts.
"Raven (Johnson). That's a tough. ... I can't even choose. That's tough," Murray-Boyles said. "Sania, too. Geez, that's tough. They're really a tough team. I don't know. Sorry, Chloe!"
While Murray-Boyles struggled to come to one name, a few of his teammates didn't face the same struggle, as talented guard MiLaysia Fulwiley was a popular response among them.
"I would say MiLaysia," 7-foot forward Jordan Butler said. "She's real crafty, I like her game a lot. I'd say MiLaysia for sure!"
"I would want to play with MiLaysia," incoming freshman Cam Scott said. "I like her play style. I've been watching her since I was little. She also grew up around here, so just being able to hear about it and watch it. Just the way she's played, I feel like, especially for me, it can create a lot of open looks for me.
"She likes to play a little fast, a little free. Those type of play styles, I can play with very well. So, I think that would be a fun game, honestly."
Collin Murray-Boyles impressed in the 2023-24 season
Collin Murray-Boyles was one of the top performers in the Gamecocks' freshman class last season. In 28 apperances, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 59.7% from the field and 71.7% from the free-throw line.
Murray-Boyles played a key part in helping the Gamecocks make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017. With South Carolina coach Lamont Paris assembling a decent signing class comprising four-star prospect Cam Scott and four-star transfer Jordan Butler, Murray-Boyles will look to help the Gamecocks make the postseason again in his sophomore season.
The Gamecocks will begin the season with a home game against the North Florida Ospreys on Nov. 4.
