South Carolina HC Dawn Staley hurrahs as Philadelphia star Joel Embiid joins USA Basketball’s Olympic team
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley expressed her joy for Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid, who will be joining the USA Basketball Team that will be going to the Paris Olympic Games. Staley also made it clear that she is a big Sixers fan in the NBA.
"I'm happy for @sixers @JoelEmbiid being on the @usabasketball Olympic team....big fella is taking up a lot of room in the paint! This experience will pay big dividends for us and this upcoming @NBA season! Let's goooo SIXERS," Staley wrote in her tweet.
Joel Embiid was selected third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. However, due to injuries, his dream debut took place in the 2016–17 season. He was considered one of the most dominant centers in the NBA.
American rapper and Sixers fan Lil Dicky made an appearance on "Podcast P with Paul George" when he talked about his love for Embiid.
"I love ... He's [Joel Embiid] made me cry. Like he's good. I've never seen anything like him. Even for the first time he played as a rookie, the first game, it was like so instant eye test, like holy f***, like crazy," Dicky told Paul George.
Embiid was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2023 and has played for seven NBA All-Star teams. He played for Kentucky in college and had 11.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 1.4 apg in 28 games.
