"Stocks looking promising": College hoops fans love what Chloe Kitts is doing for Dawn Staley's South Carolina
Basketball fans were left impressed with junior forward Chloe Kitts' performances for South Carolina this season. After the team unfurled its 2024 championship banner to commemorate their 38-0 title-winning journey last season, coach Dawn Staley let Kitts helm the Gamecocks on Thursday night against Coppin State to keep their season perfect.
The 6-foot-4 star put up numbers across the board in the Gamecocks' first home game of the season. Kitts tallied 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal as No. 1 South Carolina won its 41st straight game with a 92-60 victory over the Eagles.
The starting forward made the first four points of the game and scored 10 of the hosts' 23 points in the first frame, and the Gamecocks never looked back. Kitts recorded her second double-double of the season.
This is Kitts' second game of the season after missing Sunday's game against No. 9 NC State due to an academic issue. She produced 19 points, 14 rebounds, one steal and one block in the Gamecocks' 68-62 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 5.
Kitts' fiery performances in two games this season has earned her the approval of many hoop fans online. One fan said on X/Twitter:
" Chloe kitts stocks looking promising."
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
Kitts and Co. are now 3-0 on the season and host East Carolina on Sunday. After that, the Gamecocks take a four-game road trip, facing Clemson (Nov. 20), No. 5 UCLA (Nov. 24), No. 8 Iowa State (Nov. 28) and Purdue (Nov. 30) in the Fort Myers Tipoff.
Chloe Kitts and Gamecocks determined to win back-to-back titles
Kitts is in her third year with South Carolina and she has steadily upped her numbers.
She only appeared in 18 games in her freshman campaign, averaging 1.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.9 minutes. She improved in her sophomore season, starting in 31 of 37 games played and tallying 9.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg and 1.4 apg in 18.6 mpg.
After Kamilla Cardoso joined the WNBA by signing with the Chicago Sky, the Gamecocks gave Kitts command on the block. A sample size of two games might appear far-fetched, but she has averaged 19.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 1.0 apg and 1.0 spg this season on an efficient 62.5% field goal shooting and 87.5 free throw percentage.
As Kitts continues to dominate this season, the South Carolina Gamecocks may be able to repeat another undefeated tournament run and land back-to-back titles.
