Team USA’s Kevin Durant takes time out to watch Hailey Van Lith’s 3x3 team face off against Australia
Kevin Durant was in the stands to support his national team after Team USA women's 3x3 roster faced a tough loss in their Olympics opener against Germany. KD was present in the August 1 game where Hailey Van Lith-led squad matched up against Australia.
Team USA's Instagram handle posted the update via an image of Kevin Durant sitting in the crowd and watching the close game.
"Game recognizes game🏀 @easymoneysniper spotted supporting the U.S. women's @usab3x3 team in their matchup vs Australia. #ParisOlympics," the post read.
While the full-court Team USA renditions are dominating their way to the quarter-finals, the 3x3 women's crew sees a struggling path in pool games.
Not only did Team USA lose to Australia in Kevin Durant's presence, but they also lost to Azerbaijan near the same game, posing a 0-3 record. Van Lith scored 2 points under nine minutes against Australia and 5 points against Azerbaijan after a 6 point stint in the opener.
Nevertheless, Team USA's 3x3 women's team garnered their first win against the pool leaders Spain behind Hailey Van Lith and Rhyne Howard's five points each. While defeating the top team in the pool is a good sign for their comeback, its players have failed to step into the leadership role till now.
This makes women's 3x3 roster's upcoming path even more challenging, as they will face France, Canada, and a re-run against France in a must-win stretch if they aim to emerge on the top. They are currently the last team in the pool.
Kevin Durant's Olympics support extends beyond basketball
Kevin Durant and his Team USA crew were cheering for Suni Lee and Simone Biles in their medal game for the women's artistic gymnastics all-around. As the duo added to the nation's medal tally, Durant was smitten by Biles' athleticism and did not shy away from raving about it on social media.
Not only did he mount the "GOAT" tag for Biles after she became the most decorated American gymnast in history but also claimed that she has enough hops to catch a lob and throw it down.
Moreover, Durant praised Suni Lee by reposting her medal photo on his Instagram story and calling her a one-of-a-kind talent.
