“Thank you to everyone”: LSU HC Kim Mulkey expresses gratitude as the Tigers come together ahead of 2024 NCAAB season
The Tigers family put together a welcoming gathering for the LSU women's basketball team on Tuesday. Coach Kim Mulkey and a few other players, like Aneesah Morrow, Shy Day Wilson and Flau'jae Johnson were present.
LSU staff, coaches, fans and families gathered at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge to celebrate and show their support for the team. Players had the opportunity to interact with fans by posing for photos and signing autographs during the event.
"So many smiling faces. It’s great to be back!" LSU shared on Instagram with several images from the festivity.
Kim Mulkey, a four-time national champion coach, reposted the pictures on her Instagram story with the caption:
"Thank you to everyone who came out tonight! The season is right around the corner!"
LSU senior transfer Shy Day-Wilson also attended the event with her family, wearing a black and white Tigers t-shirt. She played two seasons at Duke before joining Miami ahead of the last season. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Hurricanes.
Kim Mulkey expresses her excitement for the upcoming season
The reason Kim Mulkey is so successful in every program she coaches is no secret — she demands excellence from her players and herself.
After guiding Baylor to three championships, she joined the Lady Tigers in 2021 and won her fourth national title only in her second season. During the welcome event, she addressed the fans, emphasizing the team's hunger for success.
"If you are not hungry while you're at LSU, then you're not going to be very motivated. Is Flau'jae hungry? I don't know. She's got a final four and an elite eight. Is she going to coast on us this year or is she going to be hungry to do it again?" Mulkey said at the podium.
"We have to find a leader in this locker room. Who will it be this year? A leader is someone who demands respect through the way they act, the way they conduct themselves and what they do every day. That’s a leader."
Kim Mulkey's track record speaks for itself. Since she became the head coach at Baylor, her team has made it to the NCAA tournament every single season except one time.
With the departure of the team's star player Angel Reese, Mulkey will need to rely on rising players like Flau'jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow and Mjracle Sheppard.
