Jan Jensen looks ready to usher in a new era for the Iowa women's basketball program this year. The Hawkeyes' new head coach was featured in a stellar hype video, which was posted on the program's official social media account a few hours ago.
The short video featured players from the Hawkeyes' talented roster, including popular names like Hannah Stuelke, Kylie Feuerbach and Ava Heiden. The last player featured in the video was Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen, which may signify her importance to the Hawkeyes in the upcoming season. The final shot is of Jensen pointing to the camera with a smile.
The video drew several reactions from Hawkeyes fans in a matter of hours.
"This so tuff," said Levin.
"The dream team. I love oyu," rejoiced a fan.
Another fan said, "Had me boppin my head the whole time… FIRED UP."
Some fans laid out their expectations from the Hawkeyes' first season in the Jensen era. While a few believed they could surprise many across the country, others touted some of their players as top prospects for WNBA team Indiana Fever.
A fan exclaimed, "Can't wait for the season to start! Let's go Hawkeyes!"
"A few future Fever players in there," said another fan.
Another fan added, "I think they are going to surprise a lot of people."
Can Jan Jensen end Iowa Hawkeyes' NCAA championship drought?
Jan Jensen served as an assistant to Lisa Bluder since the start of the 21st century. With Bluder retiring after the 2023-24 season, the responsibility for taking the program forward now rests on her shoulders, which could be one of her biggest challenges.
Bluder was successful in developing some of the biggest names in women's basketball, including 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark. However, Bluder failed to win the NCAA championship, with the Hawkeyes finishing runners-up in the last two seasons.
With Clark gone, the Hawkeyes have found an able replacement in Olsen. She starred for Villanova Wildcats last season, averaging 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 35 starts.
Jan Jensen and the Hawkeyes will begin a new era of women's basketball on November 6, taking on the Northern Illinois Huskies in front of their fans at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
