"The nation of blue and white": Mark Pope's Kentucky hosts official visit for 5-star recruit Caleb Wilson
Caleb Wilson, the No. 4-ranked recruit of the 2025 class, was in Lexington over the weekend for an official visit to coach Mark Pope's Kentucky. The five-star forward is one of the highly recruited prospects, with offers from multiple major programs like Auburn, Alabama, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas and Georgia Tech.
Wilson shared pictures from his visit to Instagram on Sunday with the caption:
"The nation of blue and white 🤍💙."
He had previously commented on his admiration for the Kentucky Wildcats to the Herald-Leader in August 2023.
“I’ve always been a Kentucky fan,” Wilson said. “I’ve never had a dream school but I’ve always liked Kentucky, I like Rupp Arena. (It’s a) big stage.”
The Wildcats have been aggressive in their pursuit of the five-star recruit and went all out to welcome him. Caleb Wilson and his family touched down in Lexington late Thursday, and Mark Pope was present with his coaching staff, including Alvin Brooks III, Jason Hart, Mikhail McLean, Mark Fox and more, at the airport.
A fan shared pictures and videos from the day to X on Thursday and wrote:
"Coach Pope and the whole staff out here at Bluegrass after midnight picking up recruits. And @Coach_AB3 I know very well who you are 😂. Appreciate your humility though!!"
Caleb Wilson credits his skills to playing multiple sports
Despite being a junior in high school, Caleb Wilson drew the attention of many with his incredible skills on the court. During the last season at the Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia, the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 21.0 points, 15.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks.
When talking about his skills to Sports Illustrated in May, Wilson credited his athletic ability to being a multi-sport athlete.
“I would say defend multiple positions and make good decisions passing the ball," Wilson said. "A lot of people ask me how I developed these guard skills and things like that, but I’ve been playing multiple sports since I was young.
“I used to run cross country. I played soccer, basketball, baseball and football when I was young. I trained my footwork for those sports, so it allows me to move like I move at the height that I am. That is something that is important and has been very important for my development.”
With a looming decision on his college team, Caleb Wilson is expected to make his choice in the coming months. On3 predicts a 22.0% chance of Wilson picking Auburn as his final destination, with Kentucky coming in third at 12.5%.
