"The worst, lowest energy and downright disgusting game": Fans bash Seton Hall after team loses buy game against Monmouth

Things are going from bad to worse for the Seton Hall Pirates. They lost for the second time in the last three games, suffering a 63-51 defeat at the hands of the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday.

What made the defeat such a bitter pill to swallow for Seton Hall fans was that Monmouth entered that contest with an abysmal 0-8 record. The Hawks had lost their first eight games by an average of 14 points.

College hoops fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to blast the Pirates after their shocking loss to Monmouth.

"This is the worst, lowest energy and downright disgusting game of Seton Hall basketball I have watched in my entire life."
"Seton Hall loses a buy game to Monmouth. The epitome of brutality."
"Seton Hall might be the worst basketball team in the country. This is beyond pathetic and I’m shocked they’ve won even 1 game."

Here are some other tweets:

"Seton Hall, you have brought shame to our once great conference," one fan claimed.
"After watching Seton Hall play, I started to say a lot of kids aren’t really ready for D1 level. It takes a lot to get there and if you don’t have the drive to be great no matter what, then you will never make it at that level," another fan posted.
"This is probably the worst Seton Hall team in program history. I’ve been watching since the 90s but I’m pretty sure this team is the worst," one fan pointed out.

Seton Hall makes wrong kind of history in loss to Monmouth

Seton Hall entered the game as a heavy favorite, having won all of its previous 15 games against Monmouth dating back to 1983. The Pirates struggled against the Hawks, however, as they lost for the third time this season to a team in the mid-majors. This is the second time they have lost a buy game at home this campaign, having lost to Fordham 57-56 on Nov. 9.

Abdi Bashir Jr. powered Monmouth's upset win, scoring a game-high 28 points. He shot 11-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-9 from the 3-point area. Jack Collins and Jaret Valencia also contributed, adding 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Isaiah Coleman scored 20 points in a losing effort for the Pirates, who dropped to 4-4.
