“Third time’s a charm”: Flau'jae Johnson makes her intentions clear ahead of new season with LSU
WNBA champions Sydney Colson and Theresa Plaisance appeared on Flau'jae Johnson's "Best of Both Worlds" podcast in the episode released on Oct. 25. In one of the segments, Johnson went through her mindset for the 2024-25 college basketball season.
As the guard mentioned the ups and downs of her initial two years, she claimed that her third has the potential to be one of her best college seasons.
"I'm ready, like, I'm ready to play.," Johnson said. "That's it, I'm just feeling ready. It's my junior year, I've done this two times before: first time was great, second time ended a little short. Third time's a charm. So I'm excited about the season and we have just been preparing just harder, just been preparing harder. It's just as far as us being in shape."
Moreover, 20-year-old Flau'jae Johnson also touched on her body and preparedness, citing that it is the best she has ever felt physically in her life.
"I think I'm in the best shape of my life that I've been in because man we've just been pressing so hard on just staying in shape and all of that. So man definitely in the best shape that I've been in and I'm just ready to play. I'm excited to play I don't care who we play I'm trying to just come in and kill now." (22:52)
Flau'jae Johnson went off in LSU's exhibition game
Right before outlining her approach toward the season, Flau’jae Johnson shared that she is exhausted from playing her teammates and known faces. With that, she claimed that she simply wanted to play against other people.
So, when the LSU Tigers stepped on the court to face the Xavier Musketeers on Thursday, Johnson balled out. The guard led the Lady Tigers to a dominant victory behind her double-double, with 30 points and 10 rebounds. She made 13 of her 19 attempts, two of which came from the long range.
Not only does Flau'jae Johnson make a loud entry to the 2024-25 stretch of games, but she also solidifies herself as a commendable offensive option. It was something that Kim Mulkey had to figure out when Angel Reese (WNBA) and Hailey Van Lith (transfer portal) exited the program this summer.
Moreover, as Aneesah Morrow followed with 19 points and 10 rebounds, it seemed like the Tigers had found their new duo.
