UConn HC Dan Hurley speaks highly of 4-star PF Isaiah Abraham: “Coming in on a great trajectory”
As UConn's core players transition to the NBA, Dan Hurley has bought in reienforcements for the Husky's potential three-peat run. One of them is the six-foot-seven combo forward Isaiah Abraham, one of the best players in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference playoffs. Moreover, he's also one of the top defensive players in his talent pool, who continues to improve his game.
When Hurley was asked about his understanding of Isaiah Abraham after watching him on the university's court, he had high praise for the forward.
"Isaiah, I think we felt like we had a guy coming in on a great trajectory and he's shown up," Hurley said. "Shown to be better. Sometimes the players are what you thought they are, little bit worse or better than you thought you were getting. He's better," he followed.
"Better offensive player, better production offensively. He's got to work on the shooting and handling the ball like a guard. But, he brings a lot of really good attributes," Hurley continued when asked about the reasoning behind his initial statement.
Abraham prides on taking up defensive challenges and was seen guarding the top matchups during most of his high school stint. Apart from being offensively skilled, he's also a great rebounder and an energizer bunny who can efficiently run the floor.
The four/three combo player could be seen taking up catch-and-shoot challenges in UConn games while using his defense to create a benchmark for the team and gluing the unit together.
Dan Hurley will be with the Storrs until 2030
Dan Hurley declined a coaching role from the LA Lakers and has sealed a new offer with the UConn Huskies. During the 2024 NBA Finals, he was reported to be on the Lakers’ radar to fill their coaching void.
However, despite taking a trip tp meet GM Rob Pelinka and other franchise members, Dan Hurley opted against the big-league transition. More than a month later, the Storrs and Hurley signed a $50 million six-year extension on July 8 to keep him until the end of the 2029-30 collegiate season.
Additional agreements of the deal include a $6.375 million pay next season alongside his $400,000 annual base salary. Moreover, the ability to retain his crew of assistant coaches was also part of the extension.
