Geno Auriemma reflects on Azzi Fudd’s performance

Azzi Fudd, who had family and friends in the stands, grew up near Georgetown's campus in Washington, D.C. She turned the game around for UConn, which fell behind by eight points in the first quarter to Georgetown.

With remarkable shooting accuracy, Fudd hit 8 of her 13 attempts, including five 3-pointers. Her 21-point performance was her second consecutive game scoring over 20 points, following a 9-for-14 shooting display against Xavier earlier in the week.

UConn coach Geno Auriemma praised Fudd for her effort and determination, acknowledging the personal stakes of the game for her.

"Her mom would always buy a ton of tickets for this particular game, and it didn't quite ever work out the way she wanted it to work out," Auriemma said. "I know she has a lot of fans down here, I know she has a lot of family down here. I could tell early on that she had a little bit of nervousness."

Auriemma also commented on Fudd’s growing confidence and her potential to deliver even more significant performances.

"She’s fun to watch," Auriemma said. "You keep waiting for when is that moment, when — we haven’t seen it this year — when is that moment where three or four or five in a row are going to go in ... but little by little, I think she’s getting back to her old self."

With their win over Georgetown secured, the Huskies now set their sights on their next opponent. They are slated to take on Saint John’s in Queens on Wednesday, looking to extend their unbeaten streak in Big East play.
