"Unethical Hoops": College hoops fans compare Rutgers star Ace Bailey to ex-NBA champion after bizarre info comes to light
Ace Bailey's play in college has been the subject of attention, with the Rutgers rookie projected to be the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA draft. The 2024-25 season is still young, but Bailey is already developing a reputation for being a shoot-first and pass-later guy.
He has recorded just one assist through the Scarlet Knights' first three games, leading some to compare him to Michael Porter Jr. The Denver Nuggets star averaged just 1.5 assists per game in the 2023-24 NBA season.
College hoops fans took to X/Twitter to air their views about Bailey's style of play.
"UNETHICAL HOOPS BYKE!!!!!" one user tweeted.
"Ace Bailey giving me this vibe," another fan pointed out.
"Another ethical crash out???? The NBA needs him in the league," one fan chimed in."
Here are more tweets:
"Been saying he’s a slightly more athletic MPJ," one fan claimed.
"Expected. But tbh he’s not ball hogging, he’s actually made some good passes but they didn’t make the shots. He’s just taking open shots and doing his thing in the midrange," another fan posted.
"Ace 'ain’t never swinging that rock' Bailey," one user wrote.
"He's just here for the buckets and nothing else my type of guy right there," another fan tweeted.
"Can’t get to the rim and can’t pass. These were obvious holes in his game that everyone just kinda ignored and I don’t know why," one fan shared.
Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper lead the way for Rutgers
Bailey's lone assist came in Rutgers' 74-63 win over the Merrimack Warriors on Wednesday. The lack of assists may be concerning for some fans, but he's making up for it with his scoring.
He recorded 17 points each in the games against Monmouth and Kennesaw State and amassed 23 points in the win against Merrimack. Bailey also grabbed 10 rebounds in that contest to record his first career double-double with the Scarlet Knights.
Bailey missed Rutgers' first two games after suffering an undisclosed injury in practice. The Scarlet Knights didn't mind his absence, as Dylan Harper carried the scoring cudgels in the wins against Wagner and Saint Peter's.
Harper and Bailey lead Rutgers in scoring this season, averaging 19.8 and 19.0 points, respectively. They will next play against Notre Dame on Tuesday.
