UWGB HC Doug Gottlieb reacts to Paolo Banchero’s all-time Duke starting 5 stars including Kyrie Irving
Green Bay Phoenix basketball coach Doug Gottlieb has reacted to Paolo Banchero's all-time Duke starting five featuring Kyrie Irving. After finishing his playing career, Gottlieb became an analyst of the sport before taking his first steps into the world of coaching this offseason.
Gven his background, Doug Gottlieb didn't mince his words when he reacted to NBA star Paolo Banchero's all-time starting 5 for the Duke Blue Devils. The Orlando Magic power forward is also an alumnus of the program and was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
When Banchero was asked to name his all-time Duke starting 5, he included Kyrie Irving as the PG, JJ Reddick as the SG, Jayson Tatum as the SF, Zion Williamson as the PF and Jahlil Okafor as the C. Gottlieb was not very impressed with the lineup as he tweeted:
"O-5," Gottlieb wrote while reposting Paolo Banchero's starting 5
Over the years, the Blue Devils have produced some of the best basketball talents the country has seen.
So it's inevitable that Paolo Banchero's choices would differ from Doug Gottlieb's. Apart from the names the Orlando star mentioned, there are other great stars from the program like Elton Brand, Brandon Ingram and Grant Hill, among others.
Doug Gottlieb reacts to RGIII and Samanda Ponder's ESPN firing
The 2024 college football season is just two weeks ahead. In an unexpected move, ESPN tackled budget cuts by firing two of their analysts, former NFL star Robert Griffin III and Samanta Ponder.
Unlike Gottlieb, who made the transition from broadcasting to coaching, ESPN letting go of two of their analysts so close to the season was surprising for him. He took to social media to share his reaction.
"Damn, firing football people 2 weeks before the season is savage," Gottlieb tweeted.
While RGIII and Samanda Ponder prepare for the next step in their broadcasting, Gottlieb will also be preparing for his first campaign as a coach. Will he have the same success he had while he was an analyst?
