VJ Edgecombe stats tonight: How did Baylor star fare vs Arlington Baptist (Dec. 27)
Five-star freshman guard VJ Edgecombe continued to build on his stock for a possible lottery first-round selection in the 2025 NBA draft.
The 6-foot-5 Edgecombe bucked a slow start to finish with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block. He helped the Baylor Bears demolish Arlington Baptist Patriots 107-53 in a nonconference game on Friday at the Foster Pavilion in Waco, Texas.
The Bahamas native shot 3-of-10, including 2-of-4 from the 3-point line, and 2-of-2 from the foul line for the Scott Drew-coached team who improved to 6-0 at home and 8-3 overall.
Edgecombe, the No. 5-ranked freshman in the Class of 2024 (per 247 Sports), scored his first two points on the 15-foot line for a 6-3 lead at the 17:32 mark of the first half.
The guard missed his four attempts from the field but made amends by helping his team put up a 23-point lead in the first 20 minutes of action. Edgecombe had six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block for Baylor in the first half.
The high-leaping guard picked up the slack in the second half, scoring eight points on two 3-pointers and a layup to finish in double figures. He also recorded two assists and one steal before resting in the final minutes when the game was already settled.

No. 25 Baylor picked up its eighth win in 11 games in the 2024-25 college basketball season at the expense of Arlington Baptist. Seven players scored in double-figures for the Bears, with Norchad Omier leading the offense with 19 points, 24 rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks.
Robert Wright III added 13 points, two rebounds, nine assists and three steals off the bench. At the same time, Jaden Celestine, Langston Love and Jayden Nunn contributed 11 points each for Baylor. Josh Ojanwuna and VJ Edgecombe came up with 10 apiece.
The Bears shot 50.6% from the field, including a 13-of-27 clip from the 3-point line. They took full control of the rebounding department, grabbing 66 rebounds (23 on the offensive glass) compared to 31 by the Patriots.
Baylor topped the assists battle, 26-9, and won the steals (15-12) and blocks (8-4) departments for a complete game. The Bears have increased their efforts since their last loss against UConn, taking care of business against Abilene Christian (88-57), Norfolk State (94-69) and Arlington Baptist (107-53).
They'll start their Big 12 regular season campaign on Tuesday against newcomers Utah at home. Last season, Baylor went 11-7 in conference play to finish the regular season at 22-9.
The Bears made the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament and were selected in the NCAA Tournament, where they appeared in the second round.
