Wake Forest's Hunter Sallis, Clemson's Chase Hunter and more cannot stop raving about UNC's RJ Davis at the ACC Media Day
RJ Davis was overwhelmingly praised by fellow players as the toughest player to guard in the ACC. Some of the names that were raving about the Tar Heels senior guard included Hunter Sallis, Chase Hunter and Isaac McNeeley.
During the ACC Media Day last week in Charlotte, athletes were asked to name the hardest players in the conference. Speaking to On3's Jamie Shaw, Wake Forest senior guard Hunter Wallis highlighted Davis' speed and scoring ability.
“It’s RJ Davis. He’s just extremely quick, can really shoot it, and score at all three levels. He was the player of the year for a reason,” Wallis said.
As Wallis pointed out, Davis is the reigning ACC Player of the Year after leading the conference in ppg with 21.2 on 39.8% shooting from behind the arc.
What did others say about RJ Davis?
Clemson guard Chase Hunter also had Davis in mind with his answer:
“I would say RJ Davis is a great player. He can do a lot. He can create, he can create his own shot, he can pass well, and then he always has other great teammates around him, so you can’t just worry about him."
Isaac McNeeley, JJ Starling and JR Konieczny also spoke about the UNC senior:
“The toughest player to defend has been RJ Davis, from North Carolina. You just got to respect his shots and you got to get up into him, but he’s super, super quick,” Virginia guard Isaac McNeeley said.
“Man, RJ. He’s a great guard who is very aggressive and he makes winning plays for the team," Syracuse guard JJ Starling said
“RJ Davis is the toughest player. He’s so quick and his change of direction, he can just do it in a blink of an eye. It’s just so hard to stay in front of him,” Notre Dame wing JR Konieczny said.
Who did RJ Davis mention as the hardest to guard?
Davis was also asked the question, and not surprisingly he chose Hunter Sallis.
“I would say, Hunter Sallis, from Wake Forest, is a really good player,” Davis told On3. “I always look forward to those good matchups. It’s just how good of a guard he is, and how much pressure he puts on the rim. His ability to score the ball. I feel like it’s always a great matchup with him.”
UNC fans will be crossing their fingers for a repeat of last season's form from Davis after he suffered a lower back contusion in the Blue-White Scrimmage. It's unsure whether he'll be fit and ready for the Tar Heels' opener on Nov. 5.
