After three years with the Villanova Wildcats, Lucy Olsen chose to transfer to the Hawkeyes in April. She is reported to be a replacement for Caitlin Clark, as she was the third-best scorer in the nation last season. Olsen averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 43.8 from the field.

Lucy Olsen has already begun bonding with the team, posting a series of photos with her new teammates on Monday. Besides their practice sessions, the Hawkeyes players were also photographed going out for movies, taco night and spending time building their chemistry off the court.

During the media availability on July 16, Lucy Olsen spoke about the importance of her efforts in bonding with the other Hawkeyes players.

"It would definitely be hard to enjoy a season if you don't like who you're playing with," she said. "So I think making friends and bonding on the court, when you make that pass and they hit that big shot, you're like 'Let's go!'. Like you're more excited. It's so much fun, I think the teammates and bonding that's my favorite part."

Lucy Olsen shares the reasons behind her choosing Iowa

For a player of her caliber, Lucy Olsen could have gone to any of the other major schools. However, she revealed in an interview that she did not even visit any school besides Iowa.

“I honestly didn’t even visit other schools. My visit was great. I got off the airplane in Philadelphia and I was like ‘well they have everything I want and more so why not go there?’” Olsen said (via KCRG).
“I got dinner with everyone and they were just joking around. There wasn’t any lull in the conversation. It wasn’t awkward. Sometimes you just know that those are your people.”

She also shared the areas of her playing that she was focusing on, like her 3-point shooting. Olsen made 29.4% of her attempts from deep.

"My 3-point shot wasn't too good last year, it's my percentage. So I've definitely been working on that," Olsen said. "Everyone here shoots the lights out, so I just want to get as good as everyone on that."

With the core trio of Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall no longer leading the Hawkeyes, fans are curious to see how this young roster will fare against expectations.
