WATCH: Iowa’s Lucy Olsen gives fans an exclusive look into her daily life in latest TikTok video
Right before the Iowa Hawkeyes' game against the Toledo Rockets, Lucy Olsen gave fans an inside look at her off-day routine at the university. In her latest TikTok video, Olsen glued together brief moments of her getting ready, eating breakfast, attending classes, watching game film, grabbing lunch with her teammates, reading, face timing her boyfriend Grayson Herr and more.
Olsen posted the video on Nov. 12 with the instrumental of Eldar Kedem's song "Walking Around" in the background, garnering over 18k views and over 2k likes.
"Off day DIML," the caption read.
While off days are essential for athletes to recover, rejuvenate and focus on their academics, they are also mandated by the NCAA. The governing body for college athletics requires programs to provide at least one off day each week throughout the season.
Players can still use the sporting facilities on these days, like Olsen’s visit to the treatment facility and film room. However, they can’t participate in activities directed by an athletic trainer or a coaching staff member.
The Hawkeyes are coming off two successful outings against Northern Illinois and Virginia Tech under first-year head coach Jan Jensen. Olsen leads the program in points (19.5 ppg) and assists (5.5 apg) as she settles into her new role.
Olsen committed to the Hawkeyes within a day
After she entered the transfer portal this summer, Hawkeyes were the first program to reach out to Olsen. Lisa Bluder was still the head coach at the time and spearheaded Olsen’s visit to the university.
Olsen reflected on her transfer with Haley Jones on the "Sometimes I Hoop" podcast, revealing that she committed within a day of visiting the program.
"They said, 'All right, let's get you out of here' and I was like, 'Okay,'" Olsen said. "So then I just went and visited. I just love everything about it and then I committed the next day. It was quick."
Bluder retired less than a month after landing Olsen. However, the guard adjusted right away due to Jan Jansen's role on Bluder's coaching staff.
Olsen spent three seasons with the Villanova Wildcats. Iowa pursued her in light of her breakout junior year, where she averaged 23.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals, ranking as the third-best scorer in the NCAA.
