One of her highlights came early in the fourth quarter after LSU had developed a 66-point lead over the Eagles. Gray was called for the foul and Flau'jae made the free throw to complete the four-point play.
Flau'jae Johnson had a slow start to her night as she missed all her shots in the first quarter. However, the guard caught fire at the start of the second stretch, springing nine straight LSU points. She scored 11 points before the break while helping LSU hold the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter.
In her junior year, Johnson is leading the offensive production for the Tigers. Kim Mulkey commends Flau'jae Johnson's work ethic
After the NC Central win, Kim Mulkey was asked about Flau'jae Johnson's new stature as the LSU Tigers' leader. The coach commended the guard's drive to become a better player. She mentioned Johnson's sincerity towards basketball despite a busy schedule.
"It doesn't take a coach to tell you what you need to work on, it just takes playing and when you're playing you remember things from the previous year and I just think Flau'jae has just this crazy work ethic," Mulkey said.
"When you think about this kid - gets up at 5 o'clock in the morning, she has to go to school, she has to do her music, she has to work on her game, then she has to come to practice - I don't know how she does it. But she does it and makes it work and she's reaping the rewards from her hard work." (6:40)
Johnson was handed an expanded role this summer after Hailey Van Lith transferred to the TCU Horned Frogs. Despite her music ventures, the guard dedicated nearly four hours to basketball in the offseason and is in the middle of the best stretch year of her career.
