Haley Cavinder revealed the reason behind opting for her fifth and final season of college sports eligibility
Hanna and Haley Cavinder surprised their fans when they announced their comeback to college basketball in April. The twins took a yearlong break in hopes of furthering their social media presence and signing new endorsement deals with various brands.
Haley was the first to declare her intention to play for the TCU Horned Frogs for the 2024-2 5 season. But her sister Hanna decided that she would come out of retirement to play for the Miami Hurricanes, leading her sister to also enter the transfer portal.
When asked about her decision, Haley said, as per USA Today:
"I missed it," Haley said, according to USA Today. "I think that's inevitable to always miss your sport when you walk away from it. But having the what-if – like, what if I took my fifth year? I need to take my fifth year to know that I did it.”
"I just missed it a ton. I'm such a competitive person, so just being able to have that feeling again is something I'm looking forward to.”
The twins helped Miami reach the Elite Eight for the first time in 2023 but were defeated by the LSU Lady Tigers, who ended up winning that year’s national championship title.
Haley ended her 2023 season with Miami by averaging 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Hanna, on the other hand, averaged 3.8 points per game and supported her team from the bench.
