After the 2024 national championship win, expectations are heavy on South Carolina to go for its first back-to-back. Tessa Johnson made a good debut in her freshman season, as she played an average of 17.8 minutes and finished with 6.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. She is expected to play a bigger role with fellow sophomore, MiLaysia Fulwiley.

Chloe Kitts made great strides in her second season with the Gamecocks, averaging 9.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 18.6 minutes. Kitts could take a bigger role on the team without a proper center, as it goes after its third championship in four years.

Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley praises Chloe Kitts' growth

From an average of 6.9 minutes in her freshman season, Chloe Kitts played 18.6 minutes last season and also made a huge jump in her other stats. South Carolina coach Dawn Staley praised the forward for her growth and named her a potential replacement for Kamilla Cardoso, who is now in the WNBA.

“I think [Sania] Feagin has the experience. Chloe [Kitts] has gotten better," Staley said (The Mirror). "Like, Chloe can go get you a bucket in any type of way… midrange, then you put her on the block, and she’s pretty savvy with her footwork. Chloe has been outstanding [and] Feagin has improved, as well.”

Per some predictions, Chloe Kitts is also expected to finally go double digits this season.

"Kitts had six double-doubles last season, but her game is less flashy, and more dirty-work based," Bluffton Today's Lulu Kesin wrote. "A prime example was the national championship game, when she scored a quiet 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.
"Staley said she's in mid-season form already, and her mid-range jumper looked fantastic in the exhibition games. Without Cardoso, Kitts is the returning starter down low and will be a core to most lineups this season."

Fans can catch the No. 1 Gamecocks live in action on Monday as they take on Michigan at 7:30 p.m. EST in the T-Mobile Arena or the broadcast on TNT.
