Hailey Van Lith’s former teammate opens up on her sudden transfer
Hailey Van Lith joined the LSU Tigers last season. The Tigers were coming off a championship run and the inclusion of Van Lith gave them the firepower they needed to retain the throne.
However, Angel Reese, Van Lith’s former LSU teammate, claimed the guard was simply not a good fit for Kim Mulkey’s style of coaching.
“I think it just wasn't a good fit for that specific team. She's an amazing guard that can do so many great things on the court. I've seen her kill for a long time and I know she'll continue to kill and I see her gain her confidence back on the three and three," Reese said.
As Reese transitioned to the WNBA this offseason, Hailey Van Lith was assumed to be the new leader of the Tigers. She is one of the best guards in NCAA women's basketball and has significant international experience under her belt. However, Van Lith transferred to LSU.
She was underutilized by Kim Mulkey. Her scoring shrank as she only recorded 9.9 attempts per game, including a career-low of 3.6 3-point attempts per game.
