WATCH: UConn coach Geno Auriemma shares heartwarming moment with Breanna Stewart's son at Liberty vs. Lynx game

Geno Auriemma was in attendance as Breanna Stewart helped the New York Liberty tie the series against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. In the Barclays Center game, the Liberty took an early 10-point lead in the first quarter.

The home team maintained a lead throughout the game and extended it in the fourth quarter, winning the contest 80-66.

After Breanna Stewart's game-high 21 points, UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma congratulated her. The Huskies coach also shared a wholesome moment with Stewart's son Theo before the group posed for the cameras.

Stewart has two kids with her wife, Marta Xargay, a former WNBA and EuroLeague player. Theo Josep Stewart Xargay is the younger son, born in October 2023. Their daughter, Ruby Mae Stewart Xargay, was born in August 2021, days after Stewart bit the gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

The two-time WNBA champion played four years of college basketball at UConn under Auriemma. They led the program to four consecutive NCAA championships from 2013-2016.

Despite being recruited by many programs in the nation, Stewart committed to Geno Auriemma’s program after visiting the school.

Apart from the four NCAA titles, Stewart also won the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player award four times and the Consensus National Player of the Year award three times. She is currently eyeing her third WNBA championship and will play the Mynx at Target Center on October 16 for Game 3 and Game 4 (October 18).

Breanna Stewart sets a WNBA Finals record

Scoring was not the only aspect Stewart shone at in Game 2 of the 2024 WNBA Finals. As a record-setting 18,040 fans cheered for the Liberty, Stewart recorded seven steals along with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and one block.

It is the most steals a player has garnered during a WNBA Finals game and also the most in Liberty's postseason books.

Breanna Stewart's increased involvement stems from the ending moments of the Game 1 loss. She missed one of her free throws near the end of regulation and failed to win the game for Liberty. Instead, the game went into overtime.

Stewart had an opportunity to keep Liberty in contention near the buzzer. However, she missed a game-tying shot with just three seconds left, resulting in a 95-93 win for the Lynx.
