"We love you Megan, Caitlin & Kate": Iowa’s Jan Jensen gives a shout-out to former Hawkeyes stars now playing in her 'favorite WNBA teams'
Iowa Hawkeyes had a great last season, falling just short of the NCAA title after losing in the title game against South Carolina. Iowa will be playing under their new head coach Jan Jensen next season. However, she won't have the services of former star players as they moved to the WNBA.
Jensen was in attendance at a game between Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces. The match was a reunion between former Iowa stars Caitlin Clark, Megan Gustafson and Kate Martin.
Jensen took to Instagram and gave a shout-out to the former stars now playing in her favorite WNBA teams.
"Watching our two fave @wnba teams and our fave @wnba players. We love you Megan, Caitlin & Kate," she wrote in her story.
The match ended with Clark's Indiana Fever defeated by Martin and Gustafson's Las Vegas Aces with a scoreline of 88-69. The former college basketball sensation, Clark scored 13 points in the game and secured 11 assists and 6 rebounds. On the other hand, both Martin and Gustafson failed to score a point.
Hawkeyes' former head coach, Lisa Bluder, and other staff members were also present at the venue as Jensen posted another story with them.
"Hawkeyes supporting Hawkeye Aces," she wrote in the story.
Caitlin Clark was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. The Naismith Women's Player of the Year 2024 is still looking to settle in the WNBA after averaging 31.6 ppg for Iowa last season. She averages 16 ppg for the Fever in 21 games so far.
Kate Martin was the 18th overall pick in the second round by the Aces. Unlike Clark, she is not a starter for the Aces and averages only 3.6 ppg in 16 games. However, being newcomers to the WNBA, both Clark and Martin still have a long way to go in the WNBA.
Jan Jensen calls out Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin as besties
In another Instagram story, Jan Jensen posted another picture, reflecting a good relationship between Clark and Martin even after turning from teammates to opponents.
"Besties that are now in the best league in the world," wrote Jensen.
Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin shared a special bond on and off the court at Iowa as well. There were many moments when the two were seen supporting each other. Martin went to the WNBA Draft to support Clark and most recently, the latter also shared her desire to have Martin as her Fever teammate.
