“What material is this”: When Kiyan Anthony approved of father Carmelo Anthony's fashionable outfit on the sideline
In a hilarious encounter between Carmelo Anthony and Kiyan Anthony early this year, the 17-year-old hooper was seen validating his father's outfit, while also enquiring about it. The instance occurred when Melo arrived donning a thick white fuzzy plaid over-shirt with green and orange abstracts for Long Island Lutheran's Jordan Holiday Classic game against Roselle Catholic on January 1, 2024.
Anthony immediately evaluated Melo's overall outfit before smartly enquiring about the quality, material and origin of his t-shirt. Carmelo Anthony casually ignored his son's remarks before yielding a sarcastic response to end the hilarious conversation.
"This like a 8 out of 10 fit," Anthony said as Melo greeted other acquaintances. "8/10 fit. What is this? What material is this? What material is this? Nah, this like a 8/10 fit. What is that?" he added.
"You ain't got these," Melo replied.
Rather than a traditional father-son bond, Kiyan Anthony has cultivated a friendship with Carmelo Anthony. The two love to indulge in comical back-and-forths, be it on or off the court.
The youngster enjoys a similar relationship with his mother La La Anthony, who proudly calls her son as her best friend.
Kiyan Anthony has his own clothing brand
Anthony's 'One Way' brand launched its first collection in May 2023 and has been steadily broadening its product line ever since.
Apart from his hooping and media-related ventures, Kiyan Anthony actively engages in One Way's marketing through pop-up events and other collaborations. Moreover, when PSD offered Anthony to line up his exclusive collection under his first major NIL agreement, the hooper dedicated one article purely to his homemade clothing brand.
His latest One Way venture was a collaboration with Got Sole in his hometown right after his recent Japan trip. Alongside plenty of interviews, photos and autograph signings, Anthony also indulged in casual one-on-one basketball with fans to increase engagement and marketing.
He also invited several social media influencers including Moses the Jeweler, who handed freebies, jewelry and cash prizes to the fans. Moreover, Los Angeles Clippers' PJ Tucker also made an appearance.
