"What're you guys doing here?": Iowa's Jada Gyamfi cries as she reunites with former Hawkeyes star Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin
Iowa Hawkeyes forward Jada Gyamfi got a huge surprise as Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin came together for a sweet reunion. Marshall documented the surprise for fans on TikTok and shared it on Saturday.
The former Hawkeyes guard began her trip from North Carolina, where she is enrolled in a master's program at UNC. Two flights later, she was picked up from the Iowa City airport by Kate Martin. The two then headed to the University of Iowa dorms, where they surprised their former teammate.
Jada Gyamfi looked tear-eyed as she saw Martin and Marshall and kept repeating:
"What're you guys doing here?"

Jada Gyamfi has shared that she was the closest with Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall and Caitlin Clark during her first two years in Iowa. Since all of them have finished their eligibility, the forward revealed that she missed them.
"Gabbie's like we have the same exact personality," Gyamfi said on "The Talkin' Hawks with The VandeBergs" podcast. "It all just kind of meshed really well. And then, my freshman year, we got super close.
"And then over the summer coming back and throughout this year, like, it really fused into some really strong friendships. Now, I'm like, 'Why did I pick three seniors to be best friends with?'"
Jada Gyamfi said Kate Martin helped her navigate her freshman season, when she was sidelined with an injury.
Jada Gyamfi looks forward to an expanded role in the upcoming season
In the last two seasons, Jada Gyamfi has averaged 3.9 minutes per game and recorded 33 points and 19 rebounds. The reduced game time can be attributed to her injury and the presence of star talents like Clark and Martin on the roster.
However, with the upcoming season, Gyamfi is hoping for more time on the court with more impact on the scoreboard.
“I think a lot of my development has come with getting stronger and a lot more confident,” she said (via On3). “I think I have all the right tools in my toolbox, but just being able to utilize them in the best way has been really important.”
Iowa assistant coach Raina Harmon also tested Gyamfi's growth as she said:
“Jada and I had a lot of workouts in the spring, and a lot of them, it was her asking and I thought that was great. I told her, 'You’ve been the greatest towel waver for the team that just left, but now it’s time to let somebody wave that towel for you.'”
