When Caitlin Clark claimed Iowa HC Jan Jensen was “way more popular” than her
The Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark once joked that Iowa Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen was far more popular than her. The former Hawkeyes star was quick to share a deep respect for Jensen and said that she is deeply loved for her character as a person.
Jan Jansen was the associate coach at Hawkyes when Caitlin Clark played at the program. She replaced Lisa Bluder this year after serving in the deputy's role at the Hawkeyes for 24 years.
In a media interaction during her senior year at the Hawkyes, Caitlin Clark was asked about trash-talking with Jensen. Clark shared some 'textbook' examples of her trash-talking skills:
"I always give her crap and tell her to go shoot at practice and stuff and she did the other day and she shot this crazy weird hook shot thing that I’ve never seen in my life but coach Jay, like one of the best you know, players to ever play in our state as well. She’s a legend."
She added that Jensen was more popular than her while she continued to entertain the media men with her humor.
"She’s way even more popular than even I am. You should see this woman’s phone, it’s incredible, but I think the thing about coach Jay is, you know, people love her to death. But it’s because of the person she is and you know she’s given up a lot of head coaching opportunities to help this program get where it is."
And the last nail in the coffin of the hilarious press conference, Caitlin said that Jensen thinks she can score better but can't.
Clark is the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer. She was the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
She popularized college basketball and the phenomenon is dubbed as 'Caitlin Clark effect'. Her last three games in the March Madness 2024 broke the viewership records and the championship game had 18.9 million viewers.
Caitlin Clark continues to be an inspiration in trash-talking
Caitlin Clark is living up to the expectations at the Indiana Fever but simultaneously making exploits in trash-talking as well. In June, Caitlin had a heated exchange with Seattle Storm star Victoria Vivians. She did a Michael Jordon shrug in the game between Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever.
Later, Las Vegas head coach Becky Hammon took note of Clark's yet another talent. She shared how the two new college basketball stars were shining in the WNBA sky for different reasons:
"Look, at the end of the day, (Clark and Reese) are really super-skilled, they’re fun to watch," Hammon said. "And they jaw at each other, you know?”
"No one talks more crap than Caitlin too,” she said. “I saw (Angel) and NaLyssa (Smith) get into it the other day. It’s a different generation. I think we talked subtly, but they be talking in your face, which is fine. Let them go. They’re big girls."
Caitlin initially struggled in her WNBA career and was not selected for the 2024 Olympics. Later, she regained her form much to the joy of her fans.
