Who is Kevin Young's brother Justin Young? Get to know more about the new Director of Recruiting of BYU
Justin Young, the BYU Cougars' new director of recruiting, is coach Kevin Young's older brother. Young has over two decades of experience in college basketball, having served as the national basketball editor for Rivals and a contributing editor at Yahoo! Sports.
More recently, Justin Young was the co-owner and editor-in-chief of HoopSeen. He is also a longtime board and voting member for several prep All-American teams and camps. He also runs his recruiting service, helping him be involved in grassroots basketball and recruitment.
Son of Phil and Jody Young, Justin is one of five sons and a daughter. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, when Kevin was 1 year old. Per his X bio, Young is a father and is married.
By using his decades-long experience covering high school basketball and recruitment, Justin Young is expected to bring in some of the best talents from high school and even from abroad to Provo. "Vanquish the Foe" reporter Robby McCombs explained Justin Young's role with the Cougars team, writing:
"BYU basketball has never had a full-time director of recruiting, and Justin’s network and time to scout players around the world will give BYU an additional advantage they did not have before.”
Kevin Young is set to begin his first season coaching the BYU Cougars after his long stint in the NBA and its affiliate G League.
Justin Young expresses his excitement for the new role
Justin Young was officially announced as BYU's Director of Recruiting on Friday and shared his excitement about the role with a post on X.
"I’m fired up to officially join the BYU Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff as the Director of Recruiting," Young wrote. "This is a unique opportunity to work with a world class staff at a world class school as we seek out world class athletes and people. Beyond excited to get to work! #PROvo"
"Vanquish the Foe" reported that Young played an important role in his brother Kevin's transition from NBA to college basketball. From staff selection to player recruitment, Justin Young has been by his brother's side through it all and is reported to be on campus for huge official visits.
“Justin is a welcomed addition to our staff,” Kevin said. “He is a creative mind that will help us think outside of the box. Justin has a lifetime of experience in the recruiting space and brings invaluable knowledge with him that will impact our recruiting structure in many ways.
"He will be a major asset to our program with his big-picture thinking as we leverage his network of relationships.”
