JuJu Watkins wins multiple Player of the Week awards
The sophomore guard made history as the first Trojan to be recognized as the Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.
This season, Watkins has already appeared on the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll twice, but this marks her debut as Player of the Week. She's also gained national recognition this week, being named the AP National Player of the Week and one of five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week.
Watkins averaged an impressive 30.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks across USC's two victories last week. The Trojans secured a commanding 94-52 win over California Baptist at Galen Center before kicking off Big Ten competition with a 66-53 road victory against Oregon.
In the game against CBU, Watkins scored an astonishing 40 points, setting a USC program record with nine 3-pointers made. Her 9-of-11 accuracy from beyond the arc marked a career-high, and she committed no turnovers during the game.
Her 40-point performance ranks as the second-highest scoring game by any D1 player this season and makes her only the third Big Ten player in the past 25 years to score 40 points while hitting nine 3-pointers in a single game. It was also her 16th career game, scoring 30 or more points.
Watkins and the Trojans are back in Los Angeles this week, hosting the Elon Phoenix on Sunday at Galen Center.
