Will Ryan Dunn get picked into the NBA? Exploring the chances of Virginia forward's 2024 NBA draft projection

Ryan Dunn had a solid, yet unspectacular, two-year career as a member of the Virginia Cavaliers. He declared for the 2024 NBA draft in April; however, it was unclear if he would withdraw from the process ahead of the May 29 early entrant withdrawal deadline. After deciding to remain in the draft, Dunn will have the opportunity to hear his name called.

Dunn joined the program as a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, averaging 2.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.1 blocks in 12.9 minutes per game while shooting 53.2% from the field, 31.3% from 3-point range and 50.0% from the free-throw line as a true freshman.

Dunn entered the starting lineup his sophomore season and saw his production take a big step. He averaged 8.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 0.8 apg, 1.3 spg and 2.3 bpg in 27.5 mpg while shooting 54.8% from the field, 20.0% from 3-point range and 53.2% from the free-throw line.

Take a look at whether or not he is likely to be selected during this week's draft.

Will Ryan Dunn get drafted into the NBA?

Ryan Dunn's collegiate numbers do not jump off the board, particularly due to his low 3-point and free-throw shooting numbers. He is, however, considered to be one of the best defenders in this year's draft class. While there were questions if he would be selected at all, he has reportedly thrived during the pre-draft process.

The former Virginia Cavaliers forward reportedly exceeded expectations with his perimeter shooting, which is likely his biggest flaw coming out of college. He also displayed an ability to guard all five positions, something that teams will value tremendously at the next level, where offenses constantly target switches and mismatches.

Dunn is now considered a lock to hear his name called. While he could come off the board as early as the first round, which is set to take place on Wednesday, he is not considered to be a sure-fire first-round pick. If he does slip to the second round, which will take place on Thursday (marking the first time the two rounds are split across two days), he will likely be among the first players off the board.
