"Y'all playing like suckers": Carmelo Anthony once lost his cool over son Kiyan Anthony's team for subpar performance at grand stage
Last year, Carmelo Anthony berated his son Kiyan Anthony's AAU team during a high-stakes game at Manhattan’s West 4th courts. The New York Knicks icon didn’t hold back his frustration over his son’s team’s subpar performance.
In a moment captured on Kiyan's "Evolution" vlog, Carmelo expressed his disappointment:
“Y'all not playing hard, y'all playing soft. Y'all playing like suckers. You think y'all gonna be recruited by coaches playing like this?” (9:33)
Reflecting on the incident, Kiyan explained that his father’s frustration stemmed from a prior disappointment during a Pro Skills game:
“He was expecting us to come out with a chip on our shoulder against PSA, and I was expecting us to do that too, but it just didn't work like that.” (9:48)
Kiyan Anthony on what it's like to have famous parents
Kiyan, the son of 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony and his ex-wife, actress La La Anthony, is no stranger to the perks of having famous parents. In an episode of Overtime's "The Evolution," Kiyan opened up about what it’s like growing up with such high-profile figures in his life:
"Me and my dad behind the scenes is another father-son relationship. I feel like since he's in the NBA and my mom being an actress, it opens more doors for all of us.” (2:00)
The 6-5 guard has formed close bonds with other celebrity kids, particularly LeBron James' sons, Bronny and Bryce, whom he affectionately refers to as cousins. Kiyan also shared how he once asked LeBron to gift him his signature Nike shoes.
The four-time NBA champion didn’t disappoint, sending Kiyan several pairs.
"I hit him, I'm like, I need some shoes," Kiyan recounted.
