Nate Oats is building a powerhouse in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama basketball clinching two Southeastern Conference championships and making the program's first Final Four appearance in the last four seasons. This year, the Tide might have their best shot at winning a national championship.
With a roster filled with talent, depth and experience, Alabama is primed for a title run. The challenge, however, is in putting the pieces together. This summer is crucial for the coaching staff to determine roles and identify the best lineups to maximize success.
With so much to be decided and proven, Oats and his team are beginning the process of managing a roster filled with potential.
Top 3 players in Nate Oats' Alabama squad
#1, Mark Sears
The fifth-year point guard is set for his one last ride on Nate Oats' Alabama squad in the 2024-25 season. Sears, a second-team consensus All-America guard, brings top-tier scoring ability to the Crimson Tide.
Sears began his career at Ohio before transferring to Alabama and emerged as one of the best players in the SEC.
During the 2023-24 season, Mark Sears was Alabama’s leading scorer, averaging 21.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He shot 50.8%, including 43.6% from 3-point range.

#2, Grant Nelson
The power forward can be the key for Alabama to go all the way in the 2024-25 season. Returning for his fifth and final year, Nelson provides the Crimson Tide with experience and skill to the roster.
Nelson transferred from North Dakota State and quickly adjusted to SEC play. Last season, he averaged 11.9 ppg and 5.9 rpg. His best outing was a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double against North Carolina in the Sweet 16.
Alabama will have a solid foundation with Grant Nelson.
#3, Jarin Stevenson
Jarin Stevenson should be a player to shine for Nate Oats' Alabama squad. The sophomore forward, who opted to return after declaring for the NBA draft, brings a towering 6-foot-11 presence.
Stevenson's stats from last season boast his potential as he averaged 5.3 ppg and 2.6 rpg, with a shooting accuracy of 42.1%, including 31.7% from beyond the arc.
The North Carolina native impressed Nate Oats in the Elite Eight, scoring 19 points with key contributions in blocks and 3-pointers, displaying his ability to deliver under pressure. The teenager’s role alongside Mark Sears will be crucial in taking Alabama deep into the competition.
