Watch: Alabama forward Jarin Stevenson showcases glimpses of on-court talent during Tatum Elite camp
Alabama basketball forward Jarin Stevenson was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024. He joined the Crimson Tide roster ahead of the 2023-24 season and made his debut against Morehead State.
Stevenson, a 6-foot-11, 210 lbs athlete, recently had an opportunity to showcase his skills at the Jayson Tatum Elite camp in Las Vegas. In a video posted by NBA and NCAA scouting director Jon Chepkevich on X/Twitter on Thursday, Stevenson showed glimpses of his offensive potential:
"Alabama’s Jarin Stevenson had some nice moments at the Tatum Elite Camp — most notably a quick-rising dunk off a cut over Paolo Banchero that may have induced some head taps," Chepkevich tweeted. "6’10” in shoes w/ a 7-foot wingspan and real floor-spacing potential. Doesn’t turn 19 until October."
Stevenson had a strong performance at the camp, throwing 3-pointers out of nowhere, hitting mid-range shots and even dunking a few times. The camp, organized by 2024 NBA champion Jayson Tatum, gathered some of the best college and high school players from across the country. NBA players Chris Paul, Isaiah Thomas and Paolo Banchero served as instructors.
Jarin Stevenson played 37 games for the Crimson Tide in the 2023-24 season, starting in only five of those, averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game on 41.8% shooting.
Jarin Stevenson returns to Alabama for sophomore season
The Chapel Hill, North Carolina native decided to return to Alabama for a second year. After playing for one season, he decided to enter the 2024 NBA draft. However, he later withdrew, just like senior Mark Sears.
He had his best game in Alamaba's red when they won their Elite Eight game against Clemson, where he scored a season-high 19 points and made five 3-pointers on the night.
"I mean, Jarin, shoot: season high in the biggest game of his life, hit big shot after big shot, made tough play after tough play," Alabama coach Nate Oats said after the game. "He grew up tonight. Shoot, 19 points on 11 shots is pretty efficient basketball. Super proud of Jarin."
Stevenson, who attended Northwood High followed by Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, NC was initially in the class of 2024, but later reclassified to the 2023 class.
247Sports ranked him as the No. 10 best player in the country and the top player in North Carolina. He had several college offers, but it was down to a final three: Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina. In the end, he decided to ply his trade in Tuscaloosa.
