WATCH: Duke star Jared McCain nervously lists out last ten No. 1 overall picks of the NBA draft
Jared McCain, On3's projected No. 13 pick in the NBA Draft, recently made an appearance on the NBA Future Starts Now Show. The former Duke star participated in the top pick trivia where he was asked to name the last 10 No. 1 overall picks in the NBA Drafts.
The No. 1 overalls are bound to turn things around for the teams who pick them. There have been many who did not perform as they were expected to. Hence, remembering all of them is not an easy task and that's where McCain landed himself.
McCain interestingly remembers seven of them. He started by naming the 2023 No. 1 pick to San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama. The others he remembered were Paolo Banchero (2022), Zion Williamson (2019), Cade Cunningham (2021), Karl-Anthony Towns (2015), Ben Simmons (2016), Deandre Ayton (2018), and Andrew Wiggins (2014).
With another NBA Draft on our heads there will soon be another name added to that list. The latest draft mocks have placed French basketball talent, Zaccharie Risacher as their No. 1 overall pick. On3 has projected him to be picked by the Atlanta Hawks before anyone else.
Whereas, Jared McCain has maintained the No. 13 position in various mock drafts. The ACC All-Rookie team member Jared McCain has been projected to be picked by the Sacramento Kings at the No. 13th position.
McCain was a key player for Duke in the 2023-24 season. He averaged 14.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 1.9 apg while shooting 46.2% from the court. He also boasted an impressive 3-point field goal percentage of 41.4% and an 88.5% success rate from the foul line. After this one-and-done season with the Blue Devils, he declared for the 2024 NBA Draft.
McCain is known for his ability to make space on the floor and make timely rotations. He has a unique ability to read the opponent's defense, take advantage of the open spots, and hit a 3-pointer from touch angles.
Jared McCain states Jon Scheyer helped gain his confidence back
One of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft, Jared McCain, had an amazing late season with the Blue Devils. When he started his career in college, he was a bit nervous when his hard work wasn't paying off. However, on the Ringer NBA Show, he revealed that it was the head coach Jon Scheyer who helped him gain confidence.
"So it just kind of took a lot of, you know, looking internally, like, what am I doing, like, I just got to keep working, keep going and coach Scheyer pull me aside," McCain mentioned.
"We talked a lot throughout the season. He was able to give me the confidence to just keep going. I knew it was going to click at one point. I knew the work was going to work," he added.
And the rest is history. Today, Jared McCain is only one step away from fulfilling his dream to play in the NBA.
