When Azzi Fudd revealed why she named one of her dogs after Breanna Stewart

Azzi Fudd has taken her admiration for WNBA star Breanna Stewart to another level. Fudd revealed in a Q&A with Wbb Updates, posted on YouTube eight months ago, that one of her dogs, Stewie, was named after the former UConn star. Fudd revealed the reason why.

"I feel like she's one of the best," she said.

Breanna Stewart, nicknamed "Stewie," led the Huskies to four consecutive national championships and was named the Final Four's most outstanding player a record four times. Meanwhile, she was a three-time consensus National Player of the Year.

Stewart, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 WNBA draft, was the Rookie of the Year for the Seattle Storm. She led the Storm to two championships (2018 and 2020), winning the WNBA Finals MVP award both times and won this season's title with the New York Liberty.

She's also won three Olympic gold medals and three FIBA World Cups.

In July 2023, Stewart co-founded Unrivaled, a 3x3 basketball league with Napheesa Collier, also a UConn product, and will play in the inaugural season.

Azzi Fudd returns to court as UConn thrashes Providence 67-41

Azzi Fudd returned to action as No. 7 UConn (11-2, 2-0 Big East) defeated Providence 67- 41 to close out the year 2024 on a high note. Fudd started and finished with eight points.

Before the game, UConn coach Geno Auriemma confirmed that the senior guard, who had been sidelined after getting injured during UConn's loss to USC, was ready for the showdown.

"A couple of practices isn't really going to get you ready to play, so I think getting away and giving it an extra four or five days," Auriemma said per The UConn Daily. "I think all that, mentally, makes her a little more comfortable knowing that there has been enough time for it to be 100%."

Paige Bueckers led with 23 points while freshman Sarah Strong had 14 points.

Next, UConn will visit Marquette on Wednesday, with the Huskies hoping to start the new year on a winning note.
