Who is Cooper Flagg’s twin brother? Explore Ace Flagg’s basketball journey, stats, rankings and more

Duke freshman sensation Cooper Flagg has a twin brother Ace Flagg, who is set to suit up in college basketball in 2025-26 season. While Cooper is about to make his college debut for the Blue Devils, Ace announced his commitment to the University of Maine.

On Tuesday, Ace shared on Instagram that he has made a verbal commitment to return to his home state and play for the Maine Black Bears, a school that competes in the America East Conference. While he is an unranked prospect in the Class of 2025, per 247Sports, he is ranked as a three-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals.

Cooper Flagg's twin brother Ace Flagg’s basketball journey

Ace Flagg, hailing from Newport, Maine, has gained national attention along with his brother, Cooper Flagg. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward joined Greensboro Day School in NC this summer from Montverde Academy for his senior high school season.

Ace began his basketball journey together with Cooper at Nokomis Regional High School in Maine. For his second year, he has followed his brother's footsteps to play for Montverde Academy in Florida. He averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Ace also played in AAU circuits for Maine United.

The Flagg twins were initially slotted in the Class of 2025, but Cooper Flagg reclassified last year to join the 2024 class and commit to Duke.

Ace Flagg stats as a junior:

  • Games played: 27
  • 2.6 PPG
  • 1.3 RPG
  • 0.4 APG
  • 0.1 SPG
  • 0.1 BPG

After his junior year, Ace received several offers from colleges, including Maine, George Washington, Colgate, Florida Gulf Coast, West Virginia and Saint Joseph. He visited Maine in September which started a heavy recruitment from the Black Bears.

Earlier this year, the prospect shared his love for his home state during the Maine Event, where Montverde and the Flagg twins played two games in Portland.

"It’s definitely an honor to be able to represent this state," Ace said. "If I could pick anywhere to live, I would live here. … There’s no better place, I think."

His commitment to Maine carries a family legacy. Kelly (Bowman) Flagg, Ace's mother, was a key player for the women's basketball team at Maine in the 90s and was also the program's Hall of Fame inductee.

Ace's girlfriend Lizzy Gruber is also a basketball star who currently plays as a center at Saint Joseph's.

Besides, Ace's strong presence on the court and defensive ability can be of great use for the Black Bears, who, under seventh-year coach Amy Vachon, finished last season at 24-10 and clinched the AEC regular season and championship.

Ace Flagg will join the Maine roster for the 2025-26 season. He will miss the opportunity to play against his brother Cooper, who is set to make his Blue Devils debut next weekend against Ace's future team, Maine.
