“You’ll never be able to please everybody”: When Kiyan Anthony’s mom La La Anthony revealed she started being “unbothered”
Kiyan Anthony's mom La La Anthony's career has spanned three decades, from being a successful MTV host to starring in hit shows like Power and The Chi. Her latest role was in Claudia Myers' TV movie, The Bad Guardian, released in May this year.
On the "Jemele Hill is Unbothered" podcast in November last year, La La discussed her acting career and personal life. Hill asked her when she developed a mindset of not being bothered by what others think about her.
"I would say, definitely in my adult life, I became unbothered, and I'm still learning to be unbothered," La La replied (0:37). "I don't think you ever master it, I mean, people will say all day — they throw the word around very loosely — 'Oh I'm unbothered.' The more say, you're are actually bothered.
"So I think I'm getting to a point of being unbothered by a lot of the outside noise, comments and opinions because you get to a place in your life where you realize you'll never be able to please everybody. Once you get that, then you're able to try to be a bit more unbothered."
The BMF star has been the subject of much public scrutiny over the years, as she navigated her marriage to former NBA player Carmelo Anthony. The couple broke up in 2017, and their divorce became finalized in 2021.
La La Anthony prioritized looking after her son Kiyan over her love life
La La Anthony has remained single after her split from Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star.
On Jemele Hill's podcast last November, she revealed that she's excited about a new phase in her life and has much more to focus on than looking for a partner.
"For me, I'm just enjoying this new chapter in my life and just trying to focus on my work, my son, and make it about that," La La said.
"I have a lot more going on than just [dating], but I finally came to the place where it's like I'm enjoying my life, what's meant for me is for me, and I just leave it at that."
La La Anthony's son Kiyan is in his senior year of high school and will join college next year. He's planning to make his college commitment on Friday on his father's podcast, "7PM in Brooklyn." His final three schools are USC, Syracuse and Auburn.
