3 Big Ten teams that look scary ahead of Week 2 of college football season ft. Ohio State
While the 2024 college football season began last week, none of the Big Ten's 18 teams were in action. That changed in Week 1 as each of the programs took the field. The week was largely a success for the conference as 17 of the teams emerged victorious, with the Minnesota Golden Gophers' 19-17 loss to North Carolina serving as the lone outlier.
Here's a look at three Big Ten teams that should continue their winning ways below.
3 Big Ten teams that look scary ahead of Week 2 of college football season
#1: Ohio State Buckeyes
The No.2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes began their season with a 52-6 victory in their Week 1 matchup with the Akron Zips. They are set to face the Western Michigan Broncos in Week 2.
While Ohio State does have four ranked opponents — three of whom are in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 Poll — on their schedule, they look poised to make a deep run.
#2: Oregon Ducks
The No.7-ranked Oregon Ducks slipped four spots in the rankings after their 24-14 Week 1 win over the Idaho Vandals. They will face the Boise State Broncos in Week 2 as they look to show their true dominance.
Oregon has one of the least challenging schedules in the Big Ten with just two ranked opponents. After shaking off some rust in their opener, look for them to bounce back.
#3: Penn State Nittany Lions
The No.8-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions were impressive in Week 1 as they went on the road and beat the West Virginia Mountaineers 34-12. They will have a much easier matchup in Week 2 as they face the Bowling Green Falcons in their home opener.
Penn State also has just two ranked opponents on their schedule and is one of the programs with the most to gain from the expanded College Football Playoff. They never reached the postseason in the 10 years of the four-team format. However, they finished in the top 12 six times.
