3 reasons why Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes were able to takedown Colorado State Rams in Week 3
The Colorado Buffaloes improved to 2-1 in the 2024 college football season as they were able to beat their intrastate rivals, the Colorado State Rams, by a final score of 28-9.
The Buffaloes entered the week coming off of a tough 28-10 loss to the rival Nebraska Cornhuskers, while the Rams blew out the FCS-level Northern Colorado Bears 38-17.
Coach Prime's clan effortlessly took down the Rams, with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter playing a major role in this victory. Here's a look at three potential reasons behind the Buffaloes' win.
Three important aspects that helped Deion Sanders win the Week 3 game
#1: Travis Hunter
Travis Hunter may very well be the best player in college football. In fact, he may be the best player at two separate positions: wide receiver and cornerback. The former five-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class had an incredible performance.
He finished with 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 13 receptions. Defensively, he added five total tackles, one interception which he returned 38 yards and one pass defended. His ability to dominate on both sides played a huge role in the final outcome of the game.
#2: Quarterback play
Shedeur Sanders was another star player to have a big performance for the Colorado Buffaloes. He completed 73.5% of his passes, throwing for 310 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Under center for the Colorado State Rams, Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi had a terrible game. He finished with 209 passing yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. He completed abysmal 56.4% of his passes and also lost a fumble on the day.
#3: The Colorado Buffaloes finally established the running game
The Colorado Buffaloes entered Saturday's Week 3 matchup averaging just 37.5 rushing yards per game, the worst mark in college football.
They averaged a brutal 1.7 yards per carry over the first two games. Things finally started to click in the running game as they recorded 109 rushing yards on 19 carries, for an average of 5.7 yards per carry.
It was an overall team effort with O-line protecting the QB, defense playing their A-game and the offensive unit impressing the most with star weapon Travis Hunter towards the end zone.
