3 teams that could beat Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss in 2024 CFB season

The 2024 Ole Miss Rebels could be the best Ole Miss team in half a century or more. Last year, the Rebels posted an 11-2 season and finished with a Peach Bowl win. With an expanded College Football Playoff, Rebels fans are expecting a CFP bid. However, the SEC is deeper and stronger than ever, and there are some dangerous teams on the Rebels' schedule. Here are three that could beat them.

1. At LSU (Oct. 12)

This is by far Ole Miss' toughest road test in 2024. The Tigers have had an offense-heavy battle with the Rebels in recent series meetings. Last year, Ole Miss won 55-49. The good news? 706 yards gained. The bad news? 637 yards allowed.

Both LSU and Ole Miss are expecting better defense this year. But it's fair to wonder if they won't just have another shootout. With the game being played at LSU, it'll be an intense challenge for the Rebels to emerge victorious. LSU leads the all-time series 63-42-4.

2. Oklahoma (Oct. 26)

ESPN's FPI has the Sooners as a slight road favorite over Ole Miss. There's not much history to go on here, as these two teams have only played each other once before. That game, in the 1999 Independence Bowl, was won by Ole Miss 27-25.

The Sooners fit the profile of teams that give the Rebels trouble. Oklahoma has a potent offense, scoring 41.7 points per game last year. They have an excellent group of veteran linebackers, who shouldn't be too surprised by whatever Kiffin cooks up. Even at Ole Miss, this matchup could be a real problem for the Rebels.

3. Georgia (Nov. 9)

Nobody wants to see the Georgia Bulldogs on their schedule. A season ago, Ole Miss was blasted by Georgia 52-17. The score wasn't a fluke. UGA outgained Ole Miss 611-352. The Rebels are 1-11 all-time against Georgia, and the Bulldogs have lost just two total games (both to Alabama) in the last three seasons.

Georgia's defense did a number on the Rebels last year. The Rebels outgained every opponent they played except Georgia (-259 yards) and Alabama (-55 yards). Those are the only two losses Ole Miss had in the year. The Rebels will have to pull some tricks out of their sleeve to not be at a disadvantage in 2024.
