3 ULM players who could pose serious threat to Arch Manning's Texas in Week 4 ft. General Booty
Arch Manning is poised to make his first start for Texas on Saturday. The No. 1 Longhorns are a 44.5-point home favorite against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.
ULM is being looked at a sacrifical lamb in this game. But college football does some strange things. Three years ago, ULM won as a 33-point and a 23.5-point underdog. Here is a trio of Warhawks who could make Manning's life more difficult.
3 ULM players who could pose a threat to Arch Manning and Texas
#1. General Booty, QB
He's named General Maximus Axel Booty and he is the nephew of quarterbacks John David Booty and Josh Booty. Booty transferred to ULM from Oklahoma in May.
ULM is 2-0 this year, and in his first significant college action, Booty completed 19 of 30 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He also has nine rushes for 24 yards. While ULM's offense has been run-heavy so far (89 rushes to 31 passes through two games), Booty will be key in an upset hopes and is certainly in a different spot than Arch Manning.
#2. Elijah Fisher, G
This junior is in his third season as a starter. The 6-foot-3, 303-pound Fisher is one of the invisible men who will be key on Saturday. He has to keep Texas's ferocious defensive front out of the Warhawk backfield and give Booty enough time to make plays.
In the first two games, Fisher and the ULM offensive line have been steady. The Warhawks average 4.6 yards per carry and have given up only two sacks in two games. Of course, Texas will bring a new world of pressure, but Fisher and his teammates will be the key to ULM's ability to fight back.
#3. David Godsey, CB
ULM's defense has a tall task, as Texas seemingly rotates from a plethora of outstanding wide receivers. Godsey is a junior cornerback. Just 5-foot-10, he's got the tenacity needed to combat taller players on a weekly basis. Last year, Godsey started eight games, switching between cornerback and safety.
A season ago, Godsey ended up with 36 tackles and five passes broken up. This year, he has six tackles, including a tackle for loss in ULM's first two games. Texas will test him early and often, so the Warhawks need a big day from Godsey to hang in the game.
