5 CFB coaches on the hot seat ahead of Week 3 ft. Billy Napier

College football is barely underway, but the seats are warm under many top college football coaches. Memories are short, and patience is shorter still throughout the country's top college football powers.

While nobody is likely getting fired in September, here are five college football coaches already on the hot seat ahead of Week 3.

#5 Deion Sanders, Colorado

A 28-10 loss to Nebraska leaves many questioning the wisdom of the Coach Prime experiment.

If the goal was to make Colorado football a talk-about program, job well done. At 5-9, if the job is winning games, Deion Sanders hasn't delivered much. Meanwhile, a series of unending PR nightmares (consider the don't-play-the-fight-song story) have been greling for Colorado.

A loss to Colorado State will likely push the Buffs out of the realm of a winning season. Nobody's firing Coach Prime two weeks into Season 2, but another 4-8 season might create enough pressure to convince him to move along into some other hype-ridden venture.

#4 Sam Pittman, Arkansas

Saturday was a tough day for Arkansas. Sam Pittman's Razorbacks were very impressive early and seemed destined to deliver the kind of significant upset win he needed, but they didn't.

Arkansas blew a 21-7 halftime lead in a 39-31 double overtime loss. It racked up 648 total yards and still found a way to lose to a team that gained 263 fewer yards. At this rate, the Hogs might just take offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino back as the coach and send Pittman packing. Pittman is 24-26 at Arkansas.

#3 Scott Satterfield, Cincinnati

Along the same lines, take Scott Satterfield's weekend. The Bearcats led 27-6 with a minute to play in the third quarter and lost 28-27 to Pittsburgh. ESPN had Cincy at a 98.6% chance of victory late in the third quarter.

Satterfield fell to 4-10 at Cincinnati, which is made even less impressive when noting previous coach Luke Fickell's seasons at UC. Fickell's teams were 4-8, 11-2, 11-3, 9-1, 13-1 and 9-4. Satterfield is just in year two, but it might be a short tenure.

#2 Mike Norvell, Florida State

Norvell's Week 0 embarrassment seemed likely to spring his FSU team back to form, but it didn't in Week 1.

After 10-3 and 13-1 marks, Norvell's team started 2024 with an 0-2 record. They had Week 2 off and will not host Memphis, Norvel''s old employer. This is a game that could make things really embarassing for the FSU boss.

#1 Billy Napier, Florida

Napier didn't have a poor Week 2, picking up an easy win and seemingly settling on DJ Lagway moving ahead at QB. Frankly, it's time.

Napier is 12-15 at Florida, and the next three games could be definitive. A home matchup against Texas A&M and a visit to Mississippi State followed by a home game with UCF needs to be at least a 2-1 group. If not, Napier's fate is probably sealed.
