5 College football teams that are likely to drop out of AP Top 25 poll after Week 2 ft. NC State
College football Week 2 will doubtlessly bring the same types of Top 25 ups and downs as week 1. But for some teams, the drop is already pretty predictable.
After Week 1, Florida State and Texas A&M fell out of the AP top 25. Here are five teams that are likely to fall out of the Top 25 after Week 2.
Five teams likely to drop out of AP Top 25 after Week 2
#5 Kansas State
The Wildcats, ranked 17th, are something of a long shot to fall out of the Top 25. But a ranked team going on a road trip to face an up-and-coming coach is a viable plot line.
Tulane hired Jon Sumall from Troy, and he's off to a promising start. In two years at Troy, Sumrall won five games as an underdog, and Kansas State is favored by just nine points.
#4 Iowa
Iowa's situation is essentially unchanging. They have a brilliant defense and a shaky offense.
The last four meetings in this series have had scorelines of 10-7, 20-13 and 18-17. The No. 21 ranked Hawkeyes are a three-point favorite and could take a tough loss here.
#3 Georgia Tech
Tech jumped into the poll at No. 23 off its beating of Florida State, which looks significantly less impressive now that Boston College has also blasted the 'Noles.
Tech has to travel to Syracuse and is just a 2.5-point favorite in the game. The home team has won the last three games in the series, and a loss will probably drop the Yellowjackets out of the top 25.
#2 Clemson
Clemson barely hung in the top 25 off an ugly loss to Georgia. While it's unlikely that Clemson loses to Appalachian State this weekend, it's not unlikely that some other team does something more impressive and slides the Tigers to just outside the top 25.
Clemson is a 17-point favorite, and another ugly offensive performance, while shy of a loss could drop Clemson from the top 25.
#1 NC State
Already ranked 24th, the Wolfpack face a tough neutral-site game against No. 14 Tennessee.
After NC State had to work into the fourth quarter to dispatch an FCS foe in Week 1, it's not out of line to expect a loss to the Vols, and with that loss, the Wolfpack are highly likely to dip out of the top 25.
