5 overrated teams that might face upset losses in Week 3 ft. Oklahoma

As college football heads into Week 3, the separation of the good teams from the overrated ones is an ongoing process. Squads like Florida State and Notre Dame have had some humble pie. Week 3 is likely to see even more upset results. Here are five favored teams that could face upset losses in Week 3.

5. Colorado

Another disappointing effort for Colorado? Very plausibly. The Buffs are a touchdown favorite going into Colorado State. A year ago, the Buffs needed double overtime to edge out Colorado State despite being a 23-and-1/2 point favorite. This prompted the ESPN broadcaster to crow "DO YOU BELIEVE NOW?"

Uh, no, not really. Then, or now. Since that game, Coach Prime is 2-10 with wins over an FCS opponent and Arizona State. Colorado State is rushing for 182 yards per game and they'll try to control the clock and knock off Colorado in Week 3.

4. West Virginia

West Virginia is a 2.5-point favorite traveling to Pittsburgh this weekend. Pitt isn't world beater, it's true, but this West Virginia offense hasn't been particularly sharp in 2024.

The guess here is that West Virginia looks more like the team that rushed for 2.3 yards per carry against Penn State than the one that rushed for 9.5 yards per carry against FCS Albany.

Meanwhile, West Virginia gave up 306 yards of passing to Albany last week. That's got to have QB Eli Holstein and Pitt excited going into this game.

3. Texas A&M

A&M is a 3.5-point road favorite at Florida. If Graham Mertz is the QB for Florida, then disregard this pick and feel comfortable that even the slugging Aggie offense will be fine. But the odds are that DJ Lagway is going to get most of the snaps for UF.

Lagway is the kind of next-level athlete who is sure to put up some plays against A&M. Sure, he might give up a big play or two himself to the Aggie defense. But if Lagway is on the field, the Gators have a chance to revitalize their flagging season with a solid upset victory.

2. Florida State

Just when life seems unable to get worse for 0-2 Florida State, here comes the Memphis Tigers.

Memphis is a 6.5-point underdog and is most immediately known to FSU fans as the school they raided for coach Mike Norvell. Needless to say, losing to his old team would be embarrassing for Norvell.

Granted, Memphis hasn't played top competition. But so far, their defense has been outstanding, yielding just 185 and 251 yards in their two games played. Meanwhile, FSU's offense has just 291 and 293 yards in its two games played. Could be a perfect storm for a tough loss.

1. Oklahoma

There's no way around it - a week ago, the Sooners got lucky. They ground out a brutal 16-12 win against a Houston team that will finish at the bottom of the Big 12. Oklahoma had just 249 yards of total offense and rushed for 2.6 yards per carry.

Now, they are a 13-point favorite over Tulane. The Green Wave nearly bested No. 17 Kansas State last week, losing a 7-point fourth-quarter lead due to a pair of costly late turnovers. Still, Tulane outgained K-State 491-396 in that game. The Green Wave has enough offense to deliver this upset.
