5 reasons why Oklahoma can face massive defeat against Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Rebels

The 4-3 Oklahoma Sooners will face 5-2 Ole Miss in a chance to regain some ground in the SEC. But the Rebels are significant favorites and for a variety of reasons, this one doesn't look good for OU.

5. Tre Harris is the best receiver in the nation

Oklahoma hasn't been awful defensively, but there's one thing they could struggle with: stopping Tre Harris. Here's a quick look at everything Harris has done in 2024.

Tre Harris:

A) Leads the nation in receiving yardage (987)

B) Is fourth in the nation is catches (59)

C) Has posted five 100+ yard games

D) Has posted three 175+ yard games

4. The Sooners lack momentum

Oklahoma has lost three of its last four games and got outscored 69-12 in its last two matchups.

OU has failed to top 291 total yards in any of those four games and the Sooners are -5 in turnover margin during that span. Oklahoma started the season relatively well, but they're stuck in reverse now.

3. A poor Oklahoma run game

A big part of Oklahoma's problems is their inability to run the football. Oklahoma is 16th in the SEC in rushing, 16th in yards per rush, and ties for 15th in rushing touchdowns.

Oklahoma has scored just five 20+ yards in seven games, half of the number Ole Miss has managed.

OU's top rusher is averaging under 3.5 yards per carry and has yet to crack 70 yards in a game this season. Meanwhile, OU has given up 56 tackles for loss, second most in the SEC.

2. The explosive Ole Miss offense

Ole Miss is first in the SEC in total offense, averaging 561 yards per game, while OU averages 288. The Rebels 7.68 yards per play is third in the nation behind only Miami and Boise State.

Ole Miss' 41.4 points per game is eighth in the nation. This is an explosive and dangerous Ole Miss offense going against a cobbled-together attack that has barely been competent.

1.The broken OU passing game

As bad as running is for Oklahoma, passing isn't any better. OU is 15th in the SEC in passing yards and passing efficiency and their poor 5.8 yards per pass attempt is by far the worst in the league.

Only once has Oklahoma topped 5.7 yards per pass, and that was during their win over Auburn.

Jackson Arnold was expected to star for Oklahoma, but he's been fairly terrible. No receiver has over 26 catches or 201 yards in seven games.

OU's offensive deficiencies put its defense in a bad spot against a potent offense. Not a good combination.
